Special administration end - Greater Western Aboriginal Corporation Health Service

Announcement
Special administration

The Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, Ms Tricia Stroud, has ended the special administration of the Greater Western Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (ICN 11850) (GWACHS).

GWACHS was placed under special administration on 11 May 2026 for the purpose of implementing a demerger of operations from the Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (ICN 792) (WACHS).

Since 1 July 2026, GWACHS has been solely responsible for the delivery of services in Greater Western Sydney, Nepean, and the Blue Mountains. These services were previously delivered by WACHS.

The demerger involved several important steps, including:

  • transferring employees delivering services in the Greater Western Sydney, Nepean, and the Blue Mountains regions from WACHS to GWACHS
  • ensuring GWACHS obtained the accreditations and approvals to carry out these services
  • separating the financial affairs of WACHS and GWACHS.

A newly appointed board will oversee the affairs of the corporation and lead its future direction. The corporation is currently supported by an interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) while recruitment for a permanent CEO is undertaken. Other senior positions have been permanently filled.

To support the corporation’s transition out of special administration, GWACHS will be required to provide additional reports to ORIC for a specified period.
