Special administration end - Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service

Announcement
Special administration

The Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, Ms Tricia Stroud, has ended the special administration of the Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (ICN 792) (WACHS).

The corporation was placed under special administration on 11 August 2025. The initial appointment was due to end on 13 February 2026 and was later extended until 14 August 2026.

Shortly after placing the corporation under special administration, members and community stakeholders from Wellington and Greater Western Sydney expressed strong support for separating the corporation’s operations.

WACHS will continue to deliver services in Wellington and Dubbo, while a newly registered corporation, Greater Western Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (ICN 11850) (GWACHS), will deliver services in Greater Western Sydney, Nepean, and the Blue Mountains.

Following extensive consultation with members, stakeholders and funding bodies, support was secured for the demerger. The special administrators then carried out the significant and complex work required to implement the demerger, which took effect on 1 July 2026.

To support WACHS transition out of special administration, the corporation will be required to provide additional reports to ORIC for a specified period.
