Special administration end - Bandjalang Aboriginal Corporation Prescribed Body Corporate RNTBC

The Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, Ms Tricia Stroud, has ended the special administration of the Bandjalang Aboriginal Corporation Prescribed Body Corporate RNTBC.

The corporation was placed under special administration on 11 November 2025 after an examination of its books identified that internal disputes had significantly affected proper management of the corporation. This included legal proceedings against the corporation brought on by its then CEO.

Shortly after his appointment, the special administrator determined that the corporation was insolvent and unable to pay its debts. The special administration was later extended beyond its original end date of 15 May 2026 in order to resolve solvency matters. The special administrator undertook consultations with Bandjalang common law holders who subsequently consented to the transfer of native title compensation funds to the corporation to ensure solvency.

Three directors have been appointed and will be responsible for the conduct of a general meeting to appoint further directors.

An interim business manager remains in place until the new board completes recruitment for the position.

The corporation’s court proceedings, which commenced prior to special administration will continue and will be managed by the incoming board of directors with the assistance from the corporation’s lawyers. 

To support the corporation’s transition out of special administration, the corporation will be required to provide additional reporting to ORIC for a specified period.
